Queen Nefertiri & King Akhenaten

Image
Nefertiti, whose name means "the beautiful one has come," was the queen of Egypt and wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten during the 14th century B.C. She and her husband established the cult of Aten, the sun god, and promoted Egyptian artwork that was radically different from its predecessors. A bust of Nefertiti is one of the most iconic symbols of Egypt.Little is known about the origins of Nefertiti, but her legacy of beauty and power continue to intrigue scholars today. Her name is Egyptian and means "the beautiful one has come." Some evidence suggests that she hailed from the town Akhmim and is the daughter or niece of a high official named Ay. Other theories have suggested that she was born in a foreign country.
Akhenaten was an ancient Egyptian pharaoh who reigned about 3,500 years ago. He made some major, but rather short-lived changes to various aspects of ancient Egyptian culture, the most notable one being his religious revolution. Akhenaten also made major changes …

Madhubani painting/Mithila painting was traditionally created by the women of theBrahman,DusadhandKayasthacommunities inMithilaregion inNepalandIndia. This painting as a form of wall art was practiced widely throughout the region; the more recent development of painting on paper and canvas originated among the villages around Madhubani. The painting was traditionally done on freshly plastered mud walls and floors of huts, but now they are also done on cloth, handmade paper andcanvas.Madhubani paintings are made from the paste of powdered rice. Introduction to Madhubani and Madhubani art with pencil on paper

Image
Madhubani painting or Mithila painting is a style of Indian painting, practiced in the Mithila region of Bihar state, India, and the adjoining parts of Terai in Nepal. Painting is done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, using natural dyes and pigments, and is characterized by eye-catching geometrical patterns.
The original inspiration for Madhubani art emerged from women’s craving for religiousness and an intense desire to be one with God. With the belief that painting something divine would achieve that desire, women began to paint pictures of gods and goddesses with an interpretation so divine that captured the hearts of many.It is locally believed that Madhubani painting tradition started when Raja Janak of Nepal commissioned local artists to paint murals in his palace in preparations for the marriage of his daughter Sita to Lord Ram. The paintings were originally done on walls coated with mud and cow dung. The kohbar ghar or the nuptial chamber was the room in…

King Tut mask pencil sketch/ coloring pages

Image
I am giving a little information about the mask before you can see my pencil sketch. The below mentioned information is what I learnt from Egypt.
The fabulous King Tut Mask was a death mask. Royal death masks or burial masks such as the fabulous death mask of Tutankhamun, the boy King Tut, were made of gold in the image of the deceased. The King Tut mask was used to cover the face of the mummy of the pharaoh and ensure that his spirit would be able to recognize the body.
The King Tut Mask, which is pictured below (my pencil sketch), depicts an actual likeness of the young Tutankhamun. The King Tut Mask weighs ten kilos, 24lbs and measures 54 cm (21 in) in height and 15 inches wide.
The design depicts the traditional nemes headdress. The nemes was the striped head cloth which would have been worn by the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. The King Tut mask depicts the boy king wearing the traditional false beard of the Pharaoh. The false beard depicted on the King Tut Mask was therefore a divine symb…

Egyptian God Anubis pencil sketch/coloring pages

Image
Discover the legends and myths and religious beliefs surrounding Anubis, the Egyptian god of the dead, Tombs and Embalming. Anubis was depicted with the body of a man and the distinctive black head of a Jackal or dog. The Underworld was called Duat and believed to be full of terrible, great dangers. Anubis greeted the souls in the Underworld and was believed to protect them on their journey.
The jackal headed god was also associated with the ritual of mummification. Many Egyptian gods were perceived as 'human hybrids' depicted with human bodies with the heads of animals. The ancient Egyptians did not worship animals - the depiction of a god as an animal was a device to visually convey the identity, qualities and attributes of the god. Egyptian Gods, like Anubis, were always depicted as young & healthy. Any gods with black symbols (like the black headed jackal symbol of Anubis) were closely connected with death and the Afterlife.
I drew this picture of Anubis from a photogra…

Egyptian god thoth pencil drawing/coloring pages

Image
He was often depicted as a man with the head of anibisor ababoon, animals sacred to him. Thoth played many vital and prominent roles inEgyptian mythology, such as maintaining the universe, and being one of the two deities (the other beingMa'at) who stood on either side ofRa's boat. Thoth was originally a moon god. The moon not only provides light at night, allowing time to still be measured without the sun, but its phases and prominence gave it a significant importance in early astrology/astronomy. The cycles of the moon also organized much of Egyptian society's rituals and events, both civil and religious. Consequently, Thoth gradually became seen as a god ofwisdom, magic, and the measurement and regulation of events and of time.He was thus said to be the secretary and counselor of thesun godRa, and with Ma'at (truth/order) stood next to Ra on the nightly voyage across the sky.
Thoth became credited by the ancient Egyptians as the inventor of writing, and was also consi…

Pyramids of Giza coloring pages

Image
I just love Egypt for its rich ancient history. It has the only standing ancient wonders of the world. I find first developed an interest to Egypt when I was studying about different civilizations around the world. Of all the civilizations I studied I just fell in love with Egyptian civilization. I used to joke that I wanted to become an archaeologist just for the history.
My dream of travelling to Egypt came true in 2010. Travelling throughout the country I came to know so much about the history. All of that I saw Pyramids of Giza was and is my favorite. I always wanted to draw a picture of the pyramids but I didn't feel a thing until I saw the massive structure first from 35,000 ft from sky.  It was awesome.
Though the below picture is just from my imagination, I hope I have given a feel of the pyramids. I will be drawing some more pictures related to Egypt and keep it posted.

Embroidery designs on paper by pencil

Image
I have never tried my hand on embroidery since I didn't have enough facination about it but I came up with some designs for a friend of mine who loves embroidery. I just love to draw a lot of designs on paper. I am sharing some pictures and some information that I know about embroidery.

Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. Embroidery may also incorporate other materials such as metal strips, pearls, beads, quills and sequins. Embroidery is most often used on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, stockings, and golf shirts. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of thread or yarn color.

An interesting characteristic of embroidery is that the basic techniques or stitches on surviving examples of the earliest embroidery—chain stitch, buttonhole or blanket stitch, running stitch, satin stitch, cross stitch—remain the fundamental techniques of hand embroidery today.

These two designs are for border only.

Handmade greeting card heat embossed using stencil

Image
This is a different method for heat embossed which I tried and I am happy about the result.
Materials required:  1. Card stock 2. Happy birthday tags 3. Stamps 4. Stencil 5. Embossing heat gun 6. Versamark embossing ink pad 7. Embossing powders (gold and black) 8. Ribbons 9. 2 sided tape
I used a white card stock for embossing. I pasted the stencil on the card and applied embossing ink all over the stencil. I removed the stencil and then poured black powder all over the card stock. I pre heat my heat gun and applied heat till the design got embossed. I used double sided tape to stick it on the red card stock to give dimension and card is done.

This method might seem to be a little tough and messy while starting for the first time but its actually easy and enjoyable.

Handmade birthday cards using heat embossing

Image
This is my favorite art project. I just can’t stop talking about this. I made 3 different greetings cards (all for birthday) using the same technique called heat embossing.  This is the first one.
Materials required:  1. Card stock 2. Happy birthday tags 3. Stamps 4. Stencil 5. Embossing heat gun 6. Versamark embossing ink pad 7. Embossing powders (gold and black) 8. Ribbons 9. 2 sided tape 10. Embossing pen

Let's start...........
I used floral stamp for the background. I first stamped it using versamark embossing ink pad (its very sticky). Once the pictures are stamped I actually poured the gold powder through out the card and tapped of the rest. Due to the stickiness nature of the embossing ink the gold powder tends to stick to the design. I always preheat my embossing gun for 20-30 seconds for very good finish. Place the heat gun at least 6 inches away from the card do it does not wrap of the paper. As you heat it is visible that the powder starts to melt of and set very well. The embossed…

Stretching exercise for fitness & running

Image
I have started running marathons and 10km runs since 2 years. I learnt that its very important to stretch before and after run. I found these stretching exercise and thought I will share them with all. These exercise are recommended by my friend (sports physiotherapist) and this can be done by all even if you are not running.

I see so many people who look fit but are not. I encourage and tell my friends to start running by laziness catches up with them. With busy work schedule and improper meal times I think these exercise will really help. I also suggest running or walking twice a week. for 30 mins. Physical fitness and mental health go hand in hand which many do not understand.

Do try these exercise.
